New Year, New Challenges.

Today, January 4, 2010, Melissa Johnson was sworn in as mayor along with Chad Nichols and myself taking our places on the City Council. In the coming weeks we will be working on the 2010 Strategic Plan to identify the areas that need to be addressed in this present economy. Although you, the residents and stakeholder of the city, have shared many of the concerns you have, I would welcome any comments or concerns you feel need to be addressed during these planning sessions.
I am excited to be a part of the process that will move our city forward in the years to come.

Clive, I would like to see the city work to incourage new businesses, not the fast food place, but some place that can provide decent jobs. Some manufacturing, or maybe another hospital facitlty, or something that would allow for better paying jobs, than chain retail. Other cities are offering incentives for this type of developement and I think it would be to our advantage to look into this.
Sincerely

you might want to label this photo – identify the people in the photo for those that don’t know

I should have labeled it when I uploaded it – something I need to learn. This is all new to me (LOL)

Before spending any tax money on attracting new business how about providing a postmortem on KraftMaid Cabinetry Inc? How much, if any, did the city lose on this ‘deal’? What (new) steps are in place to prevent this type of loss (if any)

You make a good point- and it is a concern I have shared with the city employees who are responsible for attracting business. It concerns me that we provide too many tax incentives to draw businesses here, but it is a reality that unless incentives are offered many “big” business interests won’t consider West Jordan as a new home.
I’ve been told that KraftMaid will re-open when the economy comes back to support their operation. As for Oracle and others I have no clue what will happen in the future.
